New Hair. New lipgloss.

I have been watching all episodes of Hart of Dixie the past few days so now I'm a little obsessed with Rachel Bilson. I love her style (except the boyfriend jeans) and hair, so today I had to dye my hair darker just because of her. Yes, I am that easily influenced. I actually did it myself too! It's only a toner so it will gradually wash out, but I think I will keep on using this color because I'm loving it.
Another thing I'm loving lately is bright pink lip color...

Today's little purchase was Lancôme La Laque Fever in the color 302, Lancome Rose. It's a long lasting lip gloss that supposedly lasts 8 hours. If it lasts for a couple of hours I'm happy :)

I hope you are all having a great weekend!

New HG mascara?

I think I have found the replacement for my HG YSL Faux Cils mascara that I have been using for 9 years. When I find something that is HG I usually don't stray, but when I came across a couple of Norwegian bloggers who ranted about the Mary Kay Lash Love mascara, I had to give it a go. I almost burst out of my skin of excitement when I first tried it! It's AMAAAZING! (must be pronounced like Penny says it in Happy Endings)
I really don't know anything about Mary Kay other than it's a very well-known makeup brand in the US and that this brand is not sold in stores, but through home parties. I didn't get this through a home party, but guess where? Of course, Ebay!

This mascara is cheap too (on Ebay at least) compared to the YSL mascara and yes, I would go as far as to say this is a better mascara. Why? It builds both length and volume like the YSL, but because the brush is rubber, it separates the lashes - which the YSL doesn't do a very good job of doing.

When you first get a tube of the YSL mascara, it doesn't get really good until you've used it a couple of weeks. AND it dries up incredibly fast! I will go through a mascara in 6 weeks and that to me isn't a good deal for that kind of money.

After wearing this for a week I got struck by panic that it would get sold out or discontinued, so I got some back-up mascaras ;)

If you are still on the hunt for THE mascara, please give this a try! I promise
you will love it!!

Spring and Hope

I bitch about the snow and winter, but without it I wouldn't feel that incredible joy of Spring.
The first rays of sun on my face... New freckles.. Being able to remove a couple of layers of clothing.. Watching the snow melt and the little pretty yellow flowers stretching out to get some sun.. Taking out the sun glasses and quietly drinking a latte on my porch while the little sparrows eat sun flower seeds I've put out for them.. Bliss!

I love this picture which to me symbolize change and with change comes things that are new and hope of good and wonderful things to come.

Life Is Really Short

Right now a good friend of mine has his picture all over the news, news papers, the internet - both in Norway and lots of other countries. Under the picture it says "missing" and "presumed dead".
He's a pilot and his military plane is lost with four other colleagues.

My heart is aching so much I feel like I will die from it. I can't even imagine what his parents are going through..

Just, hug your kids. Love your family. Be quick to forgive. Don't take anyone or anything for granted. Let people know that you love them. That person you all of a sudden started thinking about, that you haven't talked to nor seen for years - give him/her a call. Say hi. Maybe there's a reason why that person suddenly popped into your head...

I have taken it for granted that all my loved ones and myself included will live until we're 90.. that might not be the case.

Don't waste more time on things that really doesn't matter in the long run.

Live
Laugh
Love

Sorry for getting all serious....

I hope you are all staying safe and happy

Dubai Makeup and Beauty Haul

Well, I finally got around to posting this! Since coming back on Sunday, I've gone to bed with my 3 year old daughter at 7 pm and slept for 12 hours straight! I guess I've been a little tried!

Anyway, as I mentioned in my previous post - Sephora in Dubai was a big disappointment. I guess for some reason they can't sell Nars and Laura Mercier - and I was going to get A LOT of products from those two brands, because we don't have those in Norway. We don't have Urban Decay or Benefit either so I ended up buying some stuff at their counter in stead.

What I DO love about Sephora is that you get some great freebies with your purchase!

| Armani Lasting Silk UV Silk Foundation | Soltan sun stick spf 50 | Soltan Moisturizing Suncare Spray spf 30 (I buy things just because they are small and cute..) | Batiste Dry Shampoo x 2 | Sephora bronzing brush #43 (I LOVE this brush!) | Benefit That Gal Brightening Face Primer |

| Sephora Keep Matte Blotting Paper | Sephora Deodorant wipes (perfect to keep in your purse!) | Benefit the Pore Fessional | Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden (LUV) | Urban Decay Complexion Primer Potion | Benefit Ool La Lift Eye Brightener |

| No 7 Nude lipliner in Nude (20) <-- This is the one that Lisa Eldridge have created for No 7 and uses in lots of her You Tube videos AND on celebrities ;)) | Smashbox Brow Tech in Brunette (love it!) | Urban Decay freebie lipgloss: Lip Junkie in color Wallflower-- This is such a perfect nude lipgloss! I will get this in full size|

| Urban Decay Lip Junkie lipgloss in Wallflower |

| No 7 Lipliner in Nude (20) created by Lisa Eldridge ♥ |
(I swatched the foundation on my hand as you probably can see ;))

There was a really sweet Benefit lady at the counter who tried out several products on me, and of course I ended up buying everything she told me to :p (sucker!). She used the eye cream It's Potent with Erase Paste (no 2) on me and it made my under eye area look so bright and nice, so I'm using this every day now. I'll see in a while if this will be a part of my daily routine or not..

| Empty Bobbi Brown palette that I will fill with all my loose Bobbi Brown blushes. I LOVE BB blushes! |

|Armani Lasting Silk UV foundation SPF 20 in number 8. I have never tried an Armani foundation before so I was excited to get this. I'll use it consistently for a week or so and give you a review of it. - So far, I think this will be the foundation I will use on my sister for her wedding this Summer (unless she insists on something else ;)).

That was my makeup and beauty haulage from Dubai! Not too exciting and I'm still pouting because of the Nars and Laura Mercier.. I think I need to take my next trip to London..

Back From Dubai

Yesterday I came home from Dubai. My head is still spinning from all I've done, seen and been a part of the last 5 days..
It's wonderful and strange - and I'm going back ;)

I'll do a haul post maybe tonight (I still haven't unpacked..) but it's not as exciting as I thought and planned it would be. I went to Sephora with the longest shopping list ever and they told me they don't sell Nars nor Laura Mercier in Dubai. Big downer! :( - And all the other things I wanted, they were sold out of! I guess it just wasn't meant to be!

At least I got to ride a camel!! Woot! And I ate real gold (!) on that little chocolate cake thing you can see on the picture, I was at a 7 star restaurant located 985 feet/300 m up! (of course that is where the gold cake was..).. and lots, lots more. I still haven't digested everything myself yet.

Blog 'ya later!

Smokey Eye Tutorial

Warning: Picture heavy!

The one look I get asked about the most, is the smokey eye so I thought I would do a step-by-step tutorial on how to do that.

A misconception is that a smokey eye is with black eyeshadow. I have never done a smokey eye with black eyeshadow simply because I think it's too harsh. You can use green, blue, purple, brown, grey... The point of the smokey eye is the gradual fading of color from your lash line and upwards, with the darkest color closest to the lash line.

Here is the finished look:

Never mind the brands of makeup that I use. Use whatever you've got!

1. Start by applying an eyeshadow base. I used Urban Decay Primer potion

2. Apply a soft brown (or black or gray if you wish) eyeliner along the lash line and underneath the bottom lashes. This is not supposed to be a perfect line as we will smudge it next.....

3. Smudge it carefully (never rub hard on the eye area!) with your finger, a pencil brush or a Q-tip. It will look something like the picture on the left when you're done.

4. Add a lighter base color to the rest of your lid and up to the eyebrow. I used Mac Brule eyeshadow.

5. Add a transition color in the crease. This will be the second darkest color you use. I used Mac Quarry for this. Very often I use Mac Soft Brown which is very pretty and a warmer brown.
It's important that you use a soft blending brush. My favorite is Mac 217.

6. Time to add the darkest color to your lid, mainly as a thick "line" along your lash line. I used Mac Handwritten (plum purple brownish). With a pointed brush, add some of this color underneath the bottom lashes/onto the lashes too. Then take a fluffy brush and blend the dark color up to meet the transition color in the crease. Be careful not to blend the two colors together!

7. For a fun effect and the little "omph!" to the look, add a highlighter to your tear duct and along the brows. I used Mac Nylon. LOVE!

8. Apply a soft black eyeliner along the upper lash line and on the tight line - meaning, on the waterline on upper lash line and bottom. Carefully smudge the upper lash line with a pointed brush just to soften it up.

9. For a fun effect, apply a shimmery color along your bottom lash line. I used a favorite: Mac Sable.

10. Fill in your brows if that is needed and curl the lashes!

11. Mascara! Finally! I'm starting to feel a little more "me" :) I am using YSL Shocking

12. Apply foundation and at the same time clean up the area around your eyes since you are bound to have some dark eyeshadow fallout. My choice of foundation is Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup in the color Natural Tan (no 100). Last seen here.

13. Set the foundation with powder. I'm using Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in color Medium Deep. Leave the area underneath your eyes!

14. Wow... I can't believe you're still hanging in there!! I really went all out with the pictures this time! LOL
Anyway.. time for highlighter underneath the eyes! Love this step! I'm using Estee Lauder Ideal Light Brush-on Illuminator in number 01.

15. Don't forget the blush!! I love a brighter pink for a dark smokey eye. This is such a beautiful color: Bobbi Brown Peony.

16. Never a look without highlight on your cheekbones!! This is a HG highlighter: Mac Trace Gold. That reminds me to get another one... Use a smaller fluffy brush to place your highlighter where you want it and not all over the place!
Oh, and look! She smiles! lol

17. ..... and MORE highlighting! Along the bridge of the nose and cupid's bow. Now you are done (with the highlighter that is)

18. Then lips! I applied Mac Dervish lipliner with Mac Viva Glam V. -I wasn't happy with that so I applied Mac Partial to Pink Creme Sheen on top for a more pink color.

Voila! All done! ♥

Honey Bronze Dry Oil

In a few days I'll be going to Dubai (company trip) and I have had to dig out my Summer clothes and sandals. Although you shouldn't show knees or shoulders in Dubai, you will still wear a lot less clothes than what we wear in Norway these days. In other words: the Winder body will see daylight!! *shivers*
Although I have been to the tanning bed three times lately, the skin just doesn't have that healthy glowy Summer look to it. Enters Honey Bronze Dry Oil from The Body Shop:

It gives you the perfect bronzy glow and the oil dries up right away leaving your skin looking fresh and moisturized. This even looks natural in bright day light and most bronzing lotions and oils don't do that. They look like you dropped a bottle of glitter into your body lotion...

Pictures without and with the Bronzing Oil:
(without to the left, with on the right - in case you couldn't tell)

Maybe if I feel skinny, beautiful, tanned and nice like it, I will post a picture of myself wearing this with a dress in sunny Dubai.. probably not

Recent Makeup and Beauty Purchases

Here are a few things I have picked up recently..

1. Vitamin E face Mist, The Body Shop
This I got for the plane ride to Dubai on Wednesday. The air inside planes are so drying. Face mists, lip balms, body lotions and water is a must for long-haul flights!

2. Cherry Blossom Body Butter, The Body Shop
The smell and consistency of this body butter is sooo divine! I'll be applying this to my dry Winter legs and arms before I leave.

3. Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil, The Body Shop
I heard, watched and read all the rave about this product last Summer and I thought this is a must right now when I will be showing off bare legs and arms. I'm in LOVE with this dry oil!

4. EOS organic lip balms
This is the second time in a few weeks I have bought this package. Why? My daughter ate the first three. Yup. I asked her: "Why did you eat mama's lip balms?" Filippa: "My belly said it was good!"... LOL Crazy silly girl. Thank godness they are paraben free and organic at least.
I didn't jump on the EOS band wagon once it hit the market, because it just looked like a stupid silly shaped lip balm. How can silly lip balms like that be good? Well... I was wrong. So wrong. This is one of the best lip balms I have owned. I especially love these three colors/scents.

5. Seche Vita Top Coat (purchase from Ebay).
I was recommended this by a friend. This is an amazing top coat that will dry your nailpolish super fast and give it a great shine and longevity. Another must-have from now on!

6. Essie Wicked.
I haven't tried this yet, but it looks like a really beautiful color.

7. Maybelline Gel eyeliner.
Finally it's here in Norway! I love my Bobbi Brown but it's starting to dry out so I needed to get another one, so I thought I would give this a go. It's long lasting and comes with an eyeliner brush that's actually pretty nice.

A closer look at the Honey Broze Dry Oil coming right up!
